Each week our class will study a different spelling pattern or skill.  I will provide a list of sample words that contain the skill as well as a list of activities written an hands-on activities for practice at home.  Learning these spelling patterns are vital to helping your child decode words in reading.  They are also tested in quarterly spelling inventories.  This is similar to the standard spelling test but is graded differently.  Students get points for having the correct beginning sound, ending sound, middle vowel or vowel combination, etc.  This test is the only one that counts towards their spelling grade so I no longer give the standard weekly spelling test.
